What should I expect on my first visit?

During your first visit, we will consult with you to make sure we have all necessary background information, including your medical history. You will also get to know our podiatrists, Amy Miller-Guhl and David Guhl.

It’s normal to be nervous on your first visit to our podiatry office, but you will find that our kind and caring staff will make you feel right at home.

What do I need to bring to my first visit?

We value your time and desire to make your visit as efficient as possible.  Completing the patient registration and medical history forms prior to your first visit will aid in this process. Make sure to bring your insurance card and photo identification as well. Don’t forget to have your referral form if it is required.

How do I prepare before my appointment?

Before your first visit, make a list of any questions that you have, and symptoms that you may be experiencing. Also, write down all the medications you’ve taken, and any previous surgeries you’ve undergone—it helps you avoid forgetting anything important! Gather any important lab tests or medical records, including X-rays, lab results and MRIs.

Also, check with your insurance provider to see if you need a referral. Bring walking or exercise shoes if you are experiencing pain during physical activity.

How early should I arrive?

New patients should arrive 20 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment to complete their paperwork and the registration process. If you’ve already downloaded and filled out the forms we’ve provided online, or in our office, you will only need to arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment.

What should I be doing during my appointment?

During your visit, make sure to go over your prepared list of questions. If you don’t understand the answer your podiatrist provides, it’s okay to ask another question! We want you to understand the condition affecting your foot health. If possible, try taking some notes. Talk about any new medications you may be taking, ask why medications have been prescribed to you and describe any allergies you may have. It’s also very important to let your podiatrist know if you’re being treated by other doctors.

What should I do after my visit?

If any tests have been ordered, prepare so that you are ready for them. Ask about test instructions, possible side effects, and when to expect the results. Also, ask how the results will be made available to you. Lastly, if a follow-up appointment is necessary, schedule it before you leave your appointment.
